The Rouse Foundation – Peru Mission Journey 2026

The Rouse Foundation recently completed a medical mission trip to Peru, where three of our members—Deirdre Rouse, Dr. Charlie Rouse, and Renee Thomas—had the privilege of serving communities in , San Rafael, TOMAYKICHUA, and Ambo. We traveled to support MG International Foundation with Founder,  Rosa Asto.

During our visit, we performed more than 160 echocardiograms and over 200 electrocardiograms (EKGs) while providing care in cardiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, and optometry. We also had the opportunity to participate in and learn from the local native culture, making the experience meaningful both professionally and personally.

Many patients traveled extraordinary distances to receive medical care. It was not uncommon for individuals to walk up to five hours down the mountains and then wait several additional hours to be seen. Their determination highlighted both the tremendous need for healthcare and the value they place on receiving it.

Although we were unfortunately unable to utilize the medications we had shipped to Peru, we were able to obtain medications through local pharmacies and supplement our supplies with medications generously donated by another organization. Despite these logistical challenges, we were still able to provide meaningful care to those who needed it most.

The Peruvian people were extremely gracious, welcoming and accommodating in their support of us, displaying a genuine heart of service.

Each mission serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, service, and human connection. These experiences are both humbling and uplifting, teaching us the true meaning of kindness, patience, and grace.
